The most important aspect of determining how much to sell a domain name for, is understanding where the value is. Each domain is unique, there is no duplicate and for that, all domains are considered rare. However, not all domain names receive natural type in traffic, not all are short and sweet, and not all are the perfect keywords to describe a business or industry.

There are several hundred factors that go into the value of a domain.

• How long is it?
• How good will it be for Search Engine placement?
• Does it receive traffic?
• What industry does it relate to?
• Is it Generic/Specific?

Determing value is a dance. There are several appraisal services out there. We focus on our history here at ClickItOut. We look at past domain sales for similar domain names. We evaluate the domain by parking it on our own servers and guaging the traffic.

Once we’ve completed a thorough investigation and analysis of the domain name, only then can we price it and take it to market. The next question is of course which market to sell at? Where is our best chance of selling for top dollar?
